StreamCast Adding BitTorrent to Increase Morpheus’ Global Utility Los Angeles, February 9, 2005 - In the face of the upcoming landmark Supreme Court oral arguments next month,StreamCast Networks, Inc., makers of the popular Morpheus peer-to-peer file sharing and search software, have announced the integration of BitTorrent into its latest version, Morpheus 4.7 available today. This release marks the most technologically advanced version of its software to date and builds upon the robustness of the existing NEOnet™ technology, which already allows Morpheus users to seamlessly and simultaneously search and download files from across the major peer-to-peer file sharing networks. “Morpheus is quickly becoming the most efficient peer-to-peer search and sharing application available today, providing users with the ability to simultaneously search and obtain content from across the major peer-to-peer networks in a single application,” StreamCast Networks CEO Michael Weiss commented. “Integrating the ability for users to search and download multiple torrents is another leap forward in optimizing the functionality and user experience offered by P2P technology. This bold step solidifies Morpheus’ position as the most useful peer-to-peer search and sharing software worldwide.” “Until now, the only readily available way for users to find and obtain files and content using BitTorrent was both inefficient and, often times, inaccurate, leading to files and web pages that are out of date or are no longer in existence,” Weiss continued. “By bringing the power, efficiency and accuracy of Morpheus’ search capabilities to bear on BitTorrent files, Morpheus is able to provide a far better user experience that is fully integrated into the well-known and widely-trusted application that is Morpheus.” Morpheus 4.7 is ad-supported and available as a FREE download at http://www.morpheus.com. Morpheus Ultra, an ad-free version is available for $19.95 at www.morpheusultra.com. To date, the Morpheus software has been downloaded more than 130 million times, according to data provided by Cnet Networks’ download.com. Morpheus powered with NEOnet is a decentralized peer-to-peer file search and sharing software application. It is not a network, system or service. It is content agnostic. It is also legal. Users are encouraged to use Morpheus for legal purposes, not to infringe upon copyrights. Copyright infringement is not condoned.
In April 2003 The United States District Court for the Central District of California ruled that the current version of StreamCast Networks' Morpheus software was legal and that StreamCast was not a contributory or vicariously liable copyright infringer. The stunned copyright industry plaintiffs, who lost on that ruling, filed an appeal, requesting that the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals consider the appeal. After losing again, the entertainment industry filed an appeal to the Supreme Court. The matter is set for oral argument before the Supreme Court on March 29, 2005.
