Franklin, TN.—March 14, 2002— StreamCast Networks™, a peer-to-peer (P2P) technology company and the maker of Morpheus™, today announced that the new Morpheus Preview Edition has been downloaded over 24 million times in 9 days. Total downloads for Morpheus near 80 million since its introduction in April 2001, making it the most popular peer-to-peer (P2P) program in the world.
StreamCast Networks announced the new version of its popular Morpheus software, Morpheus Preview Edition, and made it available on March 4, 2002. The Morpheus Preview Edition is the first open-protocol software to ever reach #1 on CNET Download.com’s most popular list. It remains the most popular download across all categories for the week ending March 10, 2002.
"We are ecstatic that so many people have downloaded the Morpheus Preview Edition," said Steve Griffin, chairman and CEO StreamCast Networks. "This is a true indicator that P2P technology is here to stay and we are honored to be a part of this great evolution in the way people communicate directly."
Morpheus Preview Edition continues the Morpheus tradition of providing a full-featured and easy-to-use P2P application that allows users to share content across the Morpheus Users Network. This new edition of Morpheus utilizes open protocols established by the Gnutella developers, and enables users to directly communicate with each other and search for any type of digital file across the network. Users can control CPU utilization, word filters, upload limits, and file sharing. Morpheus also simultaneously transfers content files from multiple sources for fast downloads of large files, even from users with slower connection speeds.
